Tummy issues, headaches, tension, fertility stress - Chinese Medicine can help you more than you think.
At Laughing Tao, we offer Chinese medicine acupuncture and herbal medicine in East Peoria with a gentle, root-focused approach that helps you feel more supported, more regulated, and more at home in your body.
You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin.
Some people come to us because they’re trying to conceive. Others are living with chronic pain, stubborn bloating, headaches, hormonal changes, stress, poor sleep, or a condition that hasn’t responded well to other approaches.
Some are new to Chinese medicine. Some have tried acupuncture before and are looking for something more thoughtful, more personal, and more root-focused.
Wherever you’re starting from, our goal is the same: to help you feel safe, seen, and supported.
What Is Chinese Medicine?
Chinese medicine treats patterns, not just diagnoses, meaning two people with the same symptom may need very different treatments based on what is happening in their body overall. It’s not magic. It’s medicine.

Terms like Qi, Blood, and the organ systems in Chinese medicine are part of a clinical framework used to describe function, regulation, circulation, nourishment, and systemic relationships within the body. Although the terminology differs from modern biomedicine, it reflects a structured method of evaluating how symptoms relate to one another and where the body is no longer adapting efficiently.

In practical terms, Chinese medicine does not only ask what the diagnosis is — it asks why this pattern is happening in the first place. By looking at factors like sleep, digestion, stress, pain, menstrual health, energy, and circulation together, treatment can be tailored to the individual rather than reduced to a single label. This is one reason Chinese medicine can be especially useful for chronic, complex, or recurring issues that do not respond well to a one-size-fits-all approach.
What to Expect
Your first appointment is designed to be thorough, gentle, and personalized. We begin with conversation. We’ll talk through your health history, current concerns, patterns you’ve noticed, and what you’re hoping for.
From there, we create a treatment plan that fits the whole picture of what’s going on — not just a diagnosis on paper. Chinese medicine is about understanding how stress, hormones, pain, digestion, sleep, and energy are all interacting in the body. Your visit will include acupuncture and may also include a discussion of herbal medicine or othere supportive modalities depending on your needs and comfort level.
You'll leave with clarity. We'll help you understand what you're experiencing, what your next steps are, and what a treatment rhythm looks like.

What We Commonly Help With
Chinese Medicine supports more than just pain relief.
While we absolutely help with pain and tension, Chinese medicine is not limited to structural or muscle issues.

We also support many of the deeper patterns that affect fertility, hormones, sleep, stress, digestion, headaches, and chronic conditions.
Care That
Feels Human
Laughing Tao is a husband-and-wife Chinese medicine, home-based practice in East Peoria, just a 5 minute drive from downtown Peoria. We serve patients from Washington, Morton, Metamora, Peoria Heights, and surrounding communities.

Our work is rooted in Chinese medicine, Taoist philosophy, and the belief that healing should feel personal, thoughtful, and never rushed. We listen closely, look at the whole person, and create care that is tailored to the patterns beneath your symptoms.

Many of our patients tell us that what stands out most is not just the treatment - it’s how safe, seen, and supported they feel here.

Worried it might hurt?
People are often surprised at how gentle acupuncture is.
For many people, the biggest hesitation is not whether acupuncture can help - it’s whether treatment will feel intimidating.

Most people are surprised by how calming and gentle it feels. We regularly work with people who are brand new to Chinese medicine, nervous about needles, or unsure if this kind of care is right for them. Treatments are adapted to your comfort level, and we never rush or push.
We never want you to feel or have to "put up with" pain during your acupuncture treatment.

Once all the needles are inserted, some people feel a sense of heaviness or lightness, and many people fall asleep.
Just like your body repairing by sleeping during a hard day or during an illness, your body works just as hard during an acupuncture treatment
